First Term Paper Outline



Introduction

-Animated Feature Film: The Incredibles (2003, 116 min)
-Thesis: In Pixar's The Incredibles the physics are pushed in order to allow for a world filled with super abilities and fantastic powers that feel believable.

Body Paragraphs

1. Individual Abilities that Suspend Different Laws
-Mr. Incredible's super strength (jumps far, lifts enormous weights)
-Dash's ability to move at super speeds (not to mention accelerate and decelerate incredibly fast). There's the scene where he moves so fast he can run on water.
-Violet's ability to appear invisible and generate invulnerable energy fields.
-Frozone's ability to rapidly turn water into ice and snow

2. Technology that is Beyond Feasibility
-The clothes that can match the super abilities of each super.
-The robots that move at great speeds and have incredible dexterity (fighting Mr. Incredible, maneuvers very quickly for a thing its size)
-Zero-point energy that suspends gravity.

3. Overall Fairly Realistic Physics in the World (especially for an animated film), which allows the super abilities to feel super.
-Arcs feel right (Mr. Incredible saving suicide jumper)
-Weight and balance feels right (Mr. Incredible lifting giant statue in the volcano room; lifting the car)
-Counter Point: People are able to survive the insurvivabl.

Conclusion
-Physics are pushed throughout the film in order to make the world feel epic and extraordinary.
-The rules are only broken in ways that allow these super characters to feel incredible, and make for a very entertaining world to watch.
